Membership Types

CFASF has four types of membership: regular, industry, affiliate, and student. All membership types must comply with the sponsor requirements outlined here.

 

Regular member requirements:

  • Have a bachelor's degree or equivalent education or work experience.
  • Agree to adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
  • At the time of your membership application, be either:
    • A CFA Charterholder
    • A Level II candidate with 48-months acceptable work experience
    • Pass the Standards of Practice Exam & have 6-years acceptable work experience
  • Be either engaged in such acceptable professional work at the time of application or have acceptable work experience consisting of any of the following:
    • Collecting, evaluating or applying financial, economic or statistical data as appropriate as part of the investment decision-making process
    • Supervising directly or indirectly those who practice such activities
    • Teaching such activities.
  • Annual Dues: $150 each July

Affiliate member requirements:

  • Agree to adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct
  • Pass at least Level I of the CFA® examination OR successfully complete the Standards of Practice Exam
  • Annual Dues: $150 each July

Industry member requirements:

  • Must be either a:
    • Professional in investment and/or related financial services industry
    • An individual who, in a professional capacity, supervises financial analysts (directly or indirectly)
    • Teaches, conducts research, or serves as an administrator in the field of financial analysis at a college or university, such as professor, assistant/associate professor, or dean
  • Applicants must be regularly employed for a period of at least three years in a field such as venture capital, real estate, treasury, corporate finance, money management consulting, or other disciplines closely allied to financial analysis and who, in the opinion of the Board of Directors would make a contribution to the programs and work of the Society
  • Individuals must fulfill the sponsorship requirements
  • Sign an agreement to adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct
  • Annual Dues: $150 each July

Student member requirements:

  • Individuals must be currently enrolled in a graduate level finance program (professor's signature required)
  • Students must fulfill one other sponsorship requirement
  • Sign an agreement to adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct
  • Annual Dues: $100 each July

Neither Student or Industry members are afforded members under the California Nonprofit Corporation Law and do not have voting privileges.
