International Women’s Day: Empowering Women for the Future

In Partnership with Bay Area Financial Education Foundation

A Financial Literacy Conference Celebrating International Women's Day

Empowering Women For The Future is a special event celebrating International Women’s Day, where professional women in finance volunteer to work with high school girls on improving their financial literacy and personal empowerment through career development skills. This special event focuses on under served and at-risk communities, providing critical personal finance education within a supportive and inspirational environment. It is organized by women, for women and emphasizes the important role that financial education plays in any career or life path.

Volunteers Needed

Now in its fifth year, this event brings at-risk girls from high schools in under served Bay Area communities together with women in finance for a day of financial education and mentoring. This year we're pleased to announce a completely revised program focused entirely on financial literacy, leveraging the unique talents of the women in finance who volunteer. We'll be utilizing curriculum from Next Gen Personal Finance as well as special activities designed to build knowledge and confidence in the young ladies who participate.

While most of the day will be spent working one on one with your mentee, we've also arranged some incredible speakers to spark inspiration and exemplify empowerment throughout the day. Fifty women working in finance are needed to serve as volunteer mentors for the day at this special event. Teaching experience is not necessary to participate, but you must be currently employed by a financial services firm OR have an industry credential such as CFP®, CPA, CFA etc.

We will guide you through the educational activities at the event. Also new this year: Program details including suggested conversation topics and financial literacy activities will be provided to mentors two weeks before the event.

There is no fee to attend but we do require your commitment to participate in the entire day. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Register as a Mentor

This is a special opportunity to improve the financial literacy of girls from under served communities in San Francisco. It is a rewarding experience with the power to change lives. Please share this opportunity with women in finance who may want to volunteer.

This year’s program is designed so that mentors spend the day working with the students on personal finance and career development skills. You will be guided through exercises and activities that teach budgeting, why credit scores matter, managing debt, calculating interest, understanding paycheck deductions and other basic elements of personal finance. You will be asked to share personal wisdom and experiences with your mentee, with suggested topics for conversation and details about the students provided to you ahead of time.

Please join us for this special day and help give these young ladies the boost in knowledge, support and confidence that comes from participating in a professional women's network.
