Introduction to Data Science for Finance & Business

The amount of data available to organizations and individuals is unprecedented. Financial services sectors, including securities & investment services and banking, have the most digital data stored per firm on average. As a result, financial companies have been on an innovation and technology push to create new, disruptive technologies that can maximize use of the these data assets to solve some of the industry’s toughest problems.
This hands-on course provides a structured teaching environment where students learn classic data science methods, which are used as the bases for many financial technologies. At the end of the workshop, course participants will have applied the Python programming language and essential data science techniques to solve complex finance problems.
Attendees may use a PC or Mac to access slides and other resources we provide for the class.

This course is relevant for professionals who want to gain a hands-on introduction to essential data science methods that are utilized in finance and fintech.
Basic Python programming skills are required for this course. Alternatively, Cognitir will suggest an online course which participants need to complete before the start of this boot camp.

Upon registration, Cognitir will distribute pre-work materials via the email provided - please allow 7-10 days. As part of your course preparation, you will need to complete a free, online Python course that Cognitir will provide you when you sign up. The average participant spends 8-10 hours completing the Python pre-work, and this pre-work does not need to be completed in one-sitting. You can complete it over several days. If you already have Python experience, email Cognitir at firstname.lastname@example.org for a pre-seminar quiz that will help you determine if you can skip the pre-work altogether.
Both PCs and Macs can be used in the course. You will need to download free Python-related software to participate in this course. Cognitir will provide you with detailed instructions on how to do this after you sign up. Please note that if you are planning to use a corporate laptop, you may need permission from your IT/tech department to download external software, so please allow enough time for this installation process.
In addition to installing free Python software, you will need to download free webinar software that will allow you to take this live, online-based course. The software link will be provided to you in the pre-seminar email and will allow you to interact with your live instructor and course participants.
This event qualifies for 8 hours of continuing education credit for CFA charterholders.
