2020 Annual Wealth Conference

As the number of competitors fighting to serve high net-worth clients increases so does the need to ensure that we all provide our clients with quality advice. It appears that the leading advisors are those that can evolve their business to focus on building a wealth program for their clients rather than the much more traditional one dimensional investment program.

High net-worth clients continue to demand that all of their advisors work together, and this collaborative client-centric approach is becoming the new industry standard. Meaning that as investment advisors we need to continue to broaden the scope of our knowledge in order to be able to effectively communicate with our client's other advisors. This year's conference features a number of sessions which are designed to helps us all manage risks that are found outside of our client's traditional portfolios.

This event is offered in partnership with CFA Society Toronto.

This collaboration has broken new ground by rallying Canada’s investment sector – companies and regulators – to consider solutions to this complex issue. In this presentation, you’ll learn tips & strategies for working with clients experiencing mental health challenges and discover how to maintain balance & set boundaries and get practical tools you can use with your clients.

Session 3 - Women & Wealth: A Decade of Rich Thinking® - September 22, 2020, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Speaker: Barbara Stewart, CFA, Researcher and Author

Barbara Stewart, CFA started doing Rich Thinking ® research ten years ago because she knew that neither the media nor the financial industry was portraying the area of women and finance accurately. Why were all the messages about women and money so negative? This was completely at odds with her day-to‐day experience as a portfolio manager dealing with so many strong, capable female investors. Barbara realized that if the same inaccuracies about women’s actual capabilities and behaviors about money kept being repeated there would be no progress. It was up to women to make a difference. 10 years (and over 800 interviews in 28 countries) later, we have gained a much more accurate perspective on women and finance. In this session, Barbara will share the high level findings of her decade of research and discuss the most compelling opportunities for CFA charterholders (especially advisers) today.

Today’s philanthropy is about so much more than a tax receipt. We will hear from respected thought leaders about trends, opportunities, expectations and also their personal experiences delivering on these. Combined, participants will be better prepared to meet the needs and expectations of their clients in a way that differentiates their practice from the traditional approach to charitable giving as part of individual or business strategy.

Joanna McNamara highlights the data findings as well as the benefits of talking about P&C to protect clients' financial goals through the use of case studies. She will validate and quantify two questions:

  1. Is there a gap between what successful clients of financial advisors expect of their advisors regarding property and casualty risks – and advisors’ awareness of these expectations?
  2. What is the financial impact of not optimizing successful clients’ P&C insurance strategy to their unique coverage needs?
