7th Annual Global Portfolio Managers Panel

CFA Society San Francisco in partnership with our title sponsor, Lord Abbett, are pleased to bring you a panel of some of the best and brightest portfolio managers across the nation who deliver outstanding performance and results. Our dynamic panel of experts represent diverse sectors of the investment industry and will cover a wide range of topics including trends in investment management, asset allocation, current drivers within the markets, diversity initiatives, changes in the financial industry, managing in the time of COVID, and more. 

The event includes brief commentary by each panelist followed by a moderated discussion including audience Q&A.



Renuka Kumar, CFA; Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Management; SVB Asset Management

Renuka Kumar is Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Management at SVB Asset Management (SAM) in San Francisco. She oversees the firm’s portfolio management and trading teams, while establishing and overseeing investment strategies for short duration fixed income portfolios for companies within the innovation economy. She also leads the firm’s thought leadership program and has been focused on key areas such as ESG investing and current market dynamics. Prior to joining SAM, she served as the asset liability manager for the Treasury division of SVB Financial Group. During this time, she managed the interest rate risk position of the company, working closely with the bank’s own investment portfolio. Renuka earned a BA in finance from Michigan State.


Annika Lombardi; Portfolio Manager; Lord Abbett

Annika Lombardi is a Portfolio Manager at Lord Abbett and is responsible for contributing to the management for their taxable-fixed income strategies with a focus on corporate securities. In addition, she contributes to the management for the Climate Focused Bond Fund with a focus on ESG. She joined Lord Abbett in 2017. Her previous experience includes serving as Portfolio Manager and Research Analyst at Janus Capital International; Global Credit Analyst at Rogge Global Partners; and Assistant Vice President High Yield and Investment Grade Research at Delaware Investments. She earned a BA in communications from the University of Pennsylvania.


Alyssa Rieder, CFA, CIPM; Vice President and Chief Investment Officer; CommonSpirit Health

Alyssa Rieder is Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of CommonSpirit Health and is responsible for management and oversight of their $22 billion investment program. In this capacity, she works to ensure that development and implementation of the team’s investment strategy is in alignment with CommonSpirit Health’s capital structure, liquidity needs, policies, strategic goals, and mission. Previously, she managed the retirement and endowment assets for U.C. Campuses, Medical Centers, and Laboratories, focusing on Emerging Market and Global Equity Investments at the Office of the Treasurer of the Regents of the University of California system. Before joining U.C., she worked at Franklin Templeton Investments where she was the lead Portfolio Manager on a mutual fund as well as a Research Analyst and Sector Team Leader in Financial Services

Alyssa earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business where she was an Arjay Miller Scholar, and a BA in Quantitative Economics with honors from Stanford University. She also holds the Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting credential. Alyssa is a board member, Investment Committee Chair, and Audit lead for Castilleja School in Palo Alto and a board member on Sempra Energy’s Nuclear Decommissioning Trust.


Alison Shimada; Senior Portfolio Manager and Head of SF Global Emerging Markets Equity; Wells Fargo Asset Management

Alison Shimada is a senior portfolio manager and head of the SF Global Emerging Markets Equity team at Wells Fargo Asset Management (WFAM). She joined WFAM in 2003 after serving as an investment officer of the University of California Regents-Office of the Treasurer. Prior to her current role, she served as a senior analyst covering areas of developing Europe and Africa for three years with the firm. She began her responsibilities at WFAM as the head of equity research for the developed markets (EAFE) international equity team and as a senior investment analyst for Japan and Australia/New Zealand. She began her investment industry career in 1985, and her prior experience also includes serving as a portfolio manager specializing in Malaysian equities at Commerce Asset Fund Managers and as a senior equity analyst covering Japanese securities at Fidelity Investments Japan.

Alison earned a BS in political economies of industrial societies from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Julie Barry serves on the board of directors at CFA Society of San Francisco and is a key member of the Programming Committee. She is Consultant Relations Director – West Region, Global Consultant Relations at Wells Fargo Asset Management (WFAM). Prior to joining WFAM in 2017, Julie served as vice president of consultant relations at TIAA Asset Management, where she began her role in 2010. Julie began her investment industry career in 2002. Julie earned a BBA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
