A Survey of Global Dividends: From Vietnam to U.S.
In an environment of low yield, global dividends have emerged as a key component of a sustainable income strategy. In addition to income, global dividends have historically provided downside protection, which is particularly important as markets experience heightened volatility. Furthermore, the continued growth of emerging and frontier markets provides more opportunities for investors who adopt a global dividend strategy. This presentation will start with an exploration of the rationale for a global dividend strategy. We will then review a survey of 92 global markets as it relates to dividends (yield, payout ratio) with a deep dive on the trends, management practice and contribution to long term performance with a focus on the major global markets. It will end with a comparative case study of the use of dividends in the up and coming economy of Vietnam and the advanced economy of the United States.
