Hear each panelist's investment outlook and strategies, their take on trends and opportunities in the markets, and how each have uniquely influenced the investment and cultural direction of their respective firms.

Our Panelists Include
Amy Whitelaw, BlackRock
Portfolio Manager, Beta Strategies Group; Head of Index Asset Allocation
Ms. Whitelaw is a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager in BlackRock’s Beta Strategies Group. Amy is the head of the Index Asset Allocation Team, a team that designs and implements over $500 Billion of custom, multi-asset beta portfolios including BlackRock’s target date fund series, LifePath, and several passive derivative overlays for both Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit plans. She co-chairs the LifePath Executive Investment Committee and serves as a member of the US Defined Contribution Executive Committee. Amy is the West Coast advisor for the VP Village and also co-chairs the SF Women’s Initiative Mentoring Program.
Ms. Whitelaw’s career at BlackRock began in 1998 and includes her years with Barclays Global Investors (BGI), which merged with BlackRock in 2009. At BGI, she led the Defined Contribution Portfolio Management team in Client Solutions, responsible for the management of defined contribution strategies for institutional and retail investors. Previously, Amy worked in the Transition Services group as both a transition manager and strategist, and was also an international equity trader on Barclays Global Investors' trading desk. Prior to BGI, she worked in the Institutional Derivatives Sales group at Goldman Sachs.
Ms. Whitelaw earned a BA degree in International studies and French from Dickinson College in 1993. She is an active member of the Dickinson Volunteer Network in which she liaises with prospective Dickinson students in the Bay Area.
Lisa O’Connor, CFA. State Street Advisors
Head of Global Macro Portfolio Management
Ms. O'Connor joined State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) in 2013 as a Managing Director and member of the Senior Leadership Team. She is a founding member of SSGA's first Global Macro Hedge Fund and is Head of the Global Macro Portfolio Management team.
Ms. O'Connor has over 20 years of experience in global finance and investment management. Prior to SSGA she was a Managing Director at Mellon Capital Management where she was Head of the Active Fixed Income group. Ms. O'Connor also helped to launch Mellon Capital Management Group's flagship global macro fund in 2001 and served as a co-portfolio manager for over 12 years. In her role as Head of the Active Fixed Income group Ms. O'Connor managed a team of portfolio managers and researchers who invested approximately $7 billion in active strategies across global fixed income markets, including $2 billion in emerging market debt investments and more than $3 billion in hedge fund strategies.
Prior to Mellon she was a Fixed Income Portfolio Manager at Coutts Private Bank and an Equity Derivatives Analyst at Societe Generale.
Ms. O'Connor received a Masters of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from University of California, Davis. She also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. In 2015 - she was named one of the 50 leading women in hedge funds by the Hedge Fund Journal.
Diane Jaffee, CFA. TCW Group
Sr. Portfolio Manager; Group Managing Director
Ms. Jaffee is the Senior Portfolio Manager for the TCW Relative Value Large Cap, TCW Relative Value Dividend Appreciation, and TCW Relative Value Mid Cap strategies and funds. She joined TCW through the acquisition of SG Cowen Asset Management in 2001. She had been a Senior Portfolio Manager at Cowen Asset Management since 1995 and continues in that role at TCW. She has more than 30 years of investment experience. Before joining Cowen, she was Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Kidder, Peabody & Co from 1986 to 1995. Prior to that, she was Vice President at Lehman Management Company from 1985 to 1986 and an Equity Analyst with Prudential Insurance from 1982 to 1985. In 2007, Ms. Jaffee was named the Separately Managed Accounts Award winner in the Large Cap Equity category by Standard & Poor’s and its award partners Prima Capital and Investment Advisor magazine.
Ms. Jaffee holds a BA in Economics from Wellesley College (1982). She has completed post-graduate work in Finance and Accounting at Rutgers University Graduate School of Management and is a CFA charterholder. Ms. Jaffee is also a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the Economic Club of New York, and the CFA Society.
Dianne Sandoval, CFA. CalPERS
Investment Manager, Asset Allocation and Risk Management Team
Ms. Sandoval is an Investment Manager and a senior member of the Asset Allocation and Risk Management (AARM) team for the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). Prior to her current role, Dianne was the Portfolio Manager in charge of research, analytics, performance and risk for CalPERS $34bn private equity portfolio. She also served as the high yield trader and analyst within the global fixed income team. Prior to joining CalPERS in 2008, Sandoval worked in High Yield/Distressed Debt Sales and Trading at Morgan Stanley for four years in London. She also worked for six years in private equity and mergers and acquisitions at JP Morgan both in New York and in Mexico City.
Sandoval has a Bachelor of Science degree from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business with a concentration in finance and accounting. She completed her MBA at IESE in Barcelona, Spain. Sandoval holds the designation of a Chartered Financial Analyst from the CFA Institute and is the President of the CFA Society of Sacramento.
Margaret Reid is a Senior Investment Analyst at HighMark Capital Management, covering Consumer Discretionary and Staples for Equity strategies. She has over 10 years of institutional buy side experience, including spending several years at Allianz Global Investors on their Large Cap Growth strategies. Margaret is a CFA charterholder and co-chairs the Women’s Initiative Network of the CFA Society of San Francisco. This is her third year organizing and moderating the Global PM Panel.
