Jim Maher, CFA, CFP, CLU, ChFC, AAMS, APMA, MBA

Jim has over 30 years of experience in the financial planning industry as both an educator and advisor. Before joining the CFA Faculty in 2021, he was a Department Chair and Professor at the College for Financial Planning, a Kaplan Company, overseeing the Department of Financial Planning and Investments. In addition, he worked as a Content Specialist with Kaplan Financial Education, primarily in the areas of investments and insurance planning, and co-authored courses in the CFP® education and exam prep programs.

Prior to his experience with the CFP® team, he was an insurance and securities pre-licensing instructor for Kaplan. As an advisor, Jim operated an independent financial planning and wealth management firm and served as a financial representative for two major insurance carriers.

Jim has an MBA from Purdue Global (formerly Kaplan University) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Management from Florida International University. In 2021, he obtained a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Design from University of Wisconsin-Stout. He also holds the CLU® and ChFC® designations from the American College and the AAMS® and APMA® designations from the College for Financial Planning.
