Dr. Jean Tirole, Nobel Laureate in Economics (2014) | Economics in a Changing World: Facts, Expertise, and the Common Good
Economic Nobel Laureate Jean Tirole (2014) will explore how economics — and the social sciences more broadly — have advanced through better data, improved computational techniques, and more rigorous theory. Yet these fields now face a profound challenge: public skepticism toward “experts.” Facts are increasingly filtered through prior beliefs, while inconvenient truths are often dismissed. In this “anything goes” climate, ideas with the power to move society forward risk being sidelined, undermining progress and the pursuit of the common good.
Dr. Tirole will share insights on how we might reclaim the role of expertise in shaping a better society in the 21st century. The evening will conclude with a conversation and Q&A moderated by USF Professor Ludwig Chincarini.
